Born from a common political will, the Romania-France Season 2019 overlapped three important milestones for Romania: the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, Romanian Centenary and 100 years since the end of the First World War. Seasons, or Cultural Years, are cultural diplomacy projects organized by France for more than 30 years, but Romania is the first European country to participate in this kind of bilateral partnership. The aim of the project was to renew the image and reputation of both nations and strengthen the economic, scientific, cultural and societal ties that unite the two countries historically in over 400 events which took place both in France and Romania. Far from being a showcase, the Season offered the opportunity for a genuine dialogue between communities and creators. The entire structure of the program, the visual identity and the mission of the season have been reflected in the slogan “Forget about clichés!”.

The Season covered over 4 months with hundreds of events in France. Thereafter, for 4 months in Romania, the Romania-France Season meant over 200 projects and more than 400 events and a journey through 57 cities. All 37 key moments were carefully selected in order to perfectly reflect the message of the Season “Forget about clichés!” to over 650,000 participants. The Season presented absolute premieres for our country, such as: the first exhibition of Romania at the Louvre Museum, the first exhibition season dedicated to Romania at the Pompidou Center, but also a constant and wide presence of France at the most important events in Romania.

During the 4 months program in Romania, over 200 media representatives talked about the Season in important media outlets from Romania. This resulted in:

+ 700 dedicated materials, presenting the Season in the Romanian media landscape

+ 53,678,834 total reach

+ 6,000 media mentions for the Season, in both Romanian and English

+ 650,000 participants at the key moments of the Season and over 1 million people in Romania
